经过了 13 年的等待，詹姆斯卡麦隆执导的《阿凡达：水之道》终於在本周於伦敦举行了媒体首映会，而本片在首波媒体评价中也获得了普遍的好评，不少记者都再次被导演詹姆斯卡麦隆所呈现的视觉效果彻底震撼。
这部睽违已久的《阿凡达》续集，讲述潘朵拉星球再次面临另一个全新的威胁，而分别由山姆沃辛顿以及柔伊莎达娜回归演出的杰克苏利以及奈提莉，必须要起身扞卫他们的家园。本片的其他演员还包含雪歌妮薇佛、史帝芬朗以及凯特温斯蕾。
在《阿凡达：水之道》举行媒体放映之前，《羊男的迷宫》大导吉勒摩戴托罗就抢先看过，之後更在推特上大力赞赏了这部《阿凡达》续集是个令人赞叹的成就。
即使本片有 3 个小时又 10 分钟的惊人片长，但似乎并没有任何媒体人对此感到困扰，就连导演本人也不太介意观众们暂时离席去上厕所：
「我不想听到任何人抱怨这个片长，他们明明可以连看八个小时的电视。我几乎可以预料到有影评会写说：『令人痛苦又漫长的三个小时电影』。你们饶了我吧。我看着我的小孩坐着连看五集长达一个小时的影集。总有人得说出口：『你们去上厕所是没有问题的。』」
