执导过《欢迎来到布达佩斯大饭店》、《犬之岛》以及《法兰西特派周报》等作品的魏斯安德森，可说是当代最具个人特色的导演之一，常常在作品中呈现出色彩缤纷但同时充满细节的世界，再加上对於置中构图的执着，以及众星云集的卡司阵容，都让他的作品成为粉丝们的讨论焦点，而他的最新力作《小行星城》当然也不例外。
《小行星城》设定於 1955 年，故事讲述一群学生和家长抱持着轻松愉快的心情出席了少年天文学家博览会，并参与一场学术竞赛，但他们却不知道在这个看似轻松的活动中，他们即将经历一场一生可能只有一次的大冒险。
《小行星城》将於今年的 6 月 21 日正式上映，除了本片之外，魏斯安德森也将会在今年於 Netflix 平台上推出另一部新作《亨利休格的神奇故事》(The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar)，同时也是继《超级狐狸先生》後，他第二部改编自罗尔德达尔笔下着作的电影。
就在《小行星城》於今年的坎城影展上举行了首映会後，本片的首波评价也已经正式在网路上解禁，大部分的影评都认为《小行星城》确实充满了魅力，但并不是魏斯安德森至今最佳的作品，这点与《法兰西特派周报》类似。
